Brief Biography from Find A Grave

Descended from an ancient and respected family in the west of England (back to Sir Richard Forester, brother-in-law of William the Conquerer), he came to America in 1638 on a vessel embargoed by King Charles I. The family of five sons and two daughters settled in Ipswich, MA Colony, where they resided near the east bridge. That same year, he purchased a house and lands of John Tuttell. On April 5, 1641, he was granted eight acres of meadow in the west meadow. He an his son, Abraham are mentioned as subscribers to an allowance for Major Dison in 1648. He was a surveyor of highways and in 1664, he and his sons (Abraham, Reginald, Isaac and Jacob) are listed as inhabitants that have shares in Plum Island and Co. His name is mentioned many, many times in the Ipswich town records.

He probably married (1) Judith Wignall in England around 1619, and (2) Sarah Martin, widow of John Martin. He sold land with wife, Sarah Aug. 2, 1676.
His will dated April 30, 1680, probated June 9, 1681, inventory taken May 30, 1681. He bequeathed to wife, Sarah, what she brought to the marriage and other property. Also bequests to sons: Abraham, Renold (shortening of Reginald), Isaac, William, and Jacob; to daughters: Sarah, wife of William Story, and Mary, wife of Francis Peabody; to grandchild Hannah Story; to son, Abraham. Notes

Reginald Foster is said to have landed in Ipswich, Massachusetts in 1638 with his seven children by his first wife, whose name may have been Judith. He was said to be from the Foster family of Bamborough (Bamburgh) and Etherstone Castle, Northumberland. Pierce's "Foster Genealogy" traces the family back to Anacher the Great, Forester of Flanders, who died in 837. There is some debate as to whether his information about these early Fosters is accurate.

Origins & Parents Unknown ===A lot of stories and speculation abound in older genealogies and the internet. He has been located located north and south and west.*Not Reginald of Brunton -- There is another Reginald of Brunton, son of Thomas and Elizabeth, husband of Ann. He was still in England long after Renold of Ipswich migrated.* Not of Bamborough and Etherstone Castle or Little Badow. This was mentioned in 1889 in America Heraldica and repeated by Frederick Clifton Pierce in the Foster Genealogy. "Reginald Foster of Little Badow, Co. Essex, England, landed at Ipswich, Mass, in 1638. He belonged to the Foster family of Bamborough and Etherstone Castle, Co. Northumberland. <ref>Leroy, Auguste. Birth and Immigration

It is estimated that Renald was born about 1595, 24 years before his marriage in Theydon Garnon, Essex, England.
By 1638 he was living in Ipswich presumably with his wife and children. 26 Sep 1638. John Tuttel sold to Reynold Foster "all the sayd lott together with the sayd dwelling house together with all outhousing gardens fenceing together wit all othr the apurtenances unto the sayd house nd lott." He also sold Reynold an eight acre planting lot on Hearbreak Hill.<ref name=IpswichTown>Schofield, George A. (ed.) The ancient records of the town of Ipswich: vol. 1- from 1634 to 1650. A death date from Renald Foster was not recorded. Renold ffoster sr. died after 5 Mar 1680/1, when he attached a memorandum to his will and 30 May 1681, when his inventory was taken.
His will dated April 30, 1680, probated June 9, 1681. He bequeathed to wife, Sarah, what she brought to the marriage and other property. Also bequests to sons: Abraham, Renold (shortening of Reginald), Isaac, William, and Jacob; to daughters: Sarah, wife of William Story, and Mary, wife of Francis Peabody; to grandchild Hannah Story; to son, Abraham. A Genealogical Table of the Posterity of Reginold Rennold Foster who was born in the reign of Queen Elizabeth at or near Exeter in England the latter End of the Fifteenth Century was married and Settled at or near Exeter where he had born Five Sons and Two Daughters with whom he removed to New England in the Year 1638 and settled at Ipswich in the State of Massachusetts Bay Massachusetts He removed from England a little before the Commencement of the Civil Wars in the Reign of Charles the First and with his Family was on Board one of the Vessels embargoed by a Proclamation of the King and Council issued in April 1638 copied into Rushworth's Memorials.

The last will and testament of Renold ffoster Senr of Ipswich in the County of Essex in New England, mad the last day of Aprill Anno Dom one thousand six hundred & 80, being this day by Gods good providence of perfect understanding, tho, through Infirmatyes of body, dayly mindfull of my mortality Therefore for the setting my house in order I make and apoynt this my last will and testament as followeth. In the name of God Amen my Soule I committ into the hand of Jesus Christ, my blessed Redeemer, In hope of a joyfull resurrection at the last day my body, to a decent comly buriall, And for my outward estate which the Lord hath Graciously given me, I thus dispose of it, in manner following. It. I give and bequeath unto my son William Foster my six acres of land I had of Thomas Smith, & six acres of marsh at Hog Iland, the marsh to Jacob till my wives decease. It. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah, William Storyes wife the sum of ten pounds viz., a payre of sheets and a paire of pillowbeers, and what they amount to, not of the sum, the rest in the hands of my son Renold, which I have willed him to pay as appeares above. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary, wife of Francis Peabody the sum of ten pounds, part of it to be payd in a payre of sheets and a paire of pillobeers and a feather bed, the bed after my wives decease. I give my Grandchild Hanah Story the sum of six pounds viz. a bed bolster pillow and paire of sheetes and blanketts, which are of my now wives makeing, the rest to be payd by my executors, if she carry it well to my wife while she lives with her as she hath done to us hitherto. It. My will is that my son Jacob have the Implements of Husbandry. It. My will is wch I desire and apoynt my Two sonns Abraham Foster and Jacob Foster, to be my executors of this my last will and Testament, and request and desire my beloved Freinds Simon Stace and Nehemiah Jewett to be my overseers to this my will fullfild by my executors, and if any difference arise amongst my wife and children, or amongst them, about any particular in my will, my will is that my two overseers shall end it, and they rest satticefied as they two shall agree, and if they two difer, then a third man, who they shall choose joyning with either of them. In wittnes whereof I have sett my hand and seale ,Read, Signed, Sealed, and declared to be the last will & testament of me Renold Foster Senr. the day and year above written 1680, as witness my hand and seal.
