• Josias & his wife were Huguenots from Normandy , France. They came to America in 1666. He filed for a land claim in 1694. He was granted land in the Orange Quarter on Jan 20, 1702- "bounding North on the eastern branch of the Copper River". In 1703 he was granted an additional 730 a., & in 1711 he and nis wife conveyed to Reverend Thomas Hassel 140 a on the east bank of the river & to Thomas Hartley 80 a., Isaac Varry, servant to Josias, was granted 50 a, 1694. etc.

Josias DuPre

• Birth: 1640 in France
• Event: Arrival 1686 Charleston, South Carolina
• Death: 07 JUL 1712 in St. Thomas and St. Denis Parish, South Carolina
• The family of Josias DuPre who were respectable people in France had to fly from thence to England at the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. Josias DuPre brought two sons who were men of fashing, but they could not endure the labor of the axe and the splitting wedge, and returned to Europe.
• Josias DuPre came to South Carolina in 1686, bringing at least one manservant and probably a numerous family. That was the year following the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes. Almost the only immigrants to the Province were Huguenots, but they arrived in large numbers. read more ....
