Rev. William Minchin

Rev William Minchin was a very dark complexioned man with black hair, while his brother Charles Humphrey Minchin was fair with a slight auburn tint. Reverend William Minchin eloped with Mary Anne Wright. He was originally engaged to be married to her sister. In 1816 Mary Anne's father, Corker Wright of Rutland, Shinrone considered her too young to marry as she was only 17 years old at the time. The young lovers rode away to Dublin with her father in pursuit. Hearing his horse coming close behind them, they hid with their mounts under a bridge and heard him ride overhead. They were married in Dublin. Eventually they returned to their home area, and after a few years at nearby 'Myrtle Lodge'; they spent their married life at 'Greenhills'.

    Reverend William Minchin lived at Greenhills, County Tipperary, Ireland. He and Thomas Mahon Minchin emigrated along with their children to New Zealand arriving on 1852.
