Rhoda Jones

Rhoda's maiden name derived from her father Benjamin James' Will: "Daughter: Roda to receive slaves: Peggy & Lewis" 1855

These slaves given to Rhoda by her father are the same ones Reason and Rhoda owned in Indian Territory as seen on the True and Perfect Inventory of Reason Jones.

I have the Choctaw Freedmen Census Card Packet for Alfred Vinson, a slave of Reason and Zachariah Jones. His father was Martin Vinson and mother was Peggy Hunter. Both Mart and Peggy were slaves of Reason Jones. See my separate family trees for Martin Vinson and also Lewis James and family. I have Choctaw Freedmen Census Cards for numerous Vinson’s and Lewis'. In Alfred's file he says he belonged to Zack Jones.

The known names of the slaves: Mart (man), Ben (boy), Caroline (woman), Lewis (man), Alfred (boy), Charles (child), Peggy (woman), Lang? (girl).

I am using Notes under Rhoda's name to add some information regarding the Jones genealogy. October 2001 I inquired from Dusty about the 1831 Armstrong Roll done in Mississippi/Alabama and she did not find a listing for Reason Jones. "She said there are several Jones listed, including Capt. Nathaniel Jones. A list was provided: Billy Jones, Edward Jones, Frederick Jones, Charles Jones, Hogan Jones, Isaac Jones, James Jones, John Jones, Sr., Jones Jones (possibly Jr.), Len/Lew Jones (?), Levi Jones, Lucy Jones, Molly Jones, Nat Jones, Nathaniel Jones, Robert Jones, Robert M. Jones, Samuel Jones, Sr., Samuel Jones, Jr., Solomon Jones, Tennessee Jones, Widow Jones (??), William Jones.

On her index to Volume VII of the "Public Lands" in Mississippi portion of the American State Papers, she found these Joneses: Absolom Jones, pg. 348; Arthur Jones, pg. 711; Binns Jones, pg. 368; Britton Jones, pg. 368; John Rice Jones, pg. 679; Thomas Jones, pg. 679. "
