Photo Joel Lowther 1756–1853 Robert Lowther, son of William II and Martha Vastine Laybourne Lowther, was born about 1714 in Westmeath, Ireland. There are several inaccurate accounts of Robert Lowther's birthplace being in England which are considered incorrect. Robert was a teenager when he arrived with his family in America from Ireland. He refused to become a Quaker, which led to his being disowned and disinherited by his father. This is a copy of William Lowther II's will which may reflect the disinheritance of Robert since he is not mentioned but two of his children are. He married Aquilla Reese, daughter of Joseph and Rebecca Reese, 2 Feb-20-1736 in the First Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, PA. He died in 1780 in Harrison County, Virginia. Aquilla Reese, b. 1715 in Bucks Co, PA, in Plumstead Township is the daughter of Joseph Reese and Rebecca ___, d. in Harrison County, (West) Virginia. Norman's "Descendants of Robert Lowther," reports death date for Aquilla Reese as 1747, but then lists three children born after that date; which leads this date to be suspect.
