About Ruth P West
Ruth Fields was a Cherokee woman
Biography
Ruth Fields was born in the Cherokee Nation (East) in 1815. She was the daughter of George Fields and Sarah Coody, both Cherokee. She married John West about 1834. The couple appears on the 1835 Cherokee Census living at Creek Path (now Alabama). [1] They were the parents of William, George, Martha, John, James, Kiamitia, Ruth, and Franklin. [2] John died in 1867 and Ruth died in 1869. They are buried together at the McClure Cemetery, Muskogee County, Oklahoma. [3]

Ruth was the daughter of Captain George Fields and Sarah (Coody) Fields. She was born in Cherokee Nation East.
She married John W. West and they had eight children: William Mosley, George Rider, Martha S. (Cozens), John Calhoun, James Polk, Kiamitia C., Ruth E., and Franklin Pierce West. She was the niece of Chief Richard Fields,Jr.
They traveled from Tellico Plains, TN to Indian Territory in the early 1830's, prior to the forced removal called the Trail of Tears.
John & Ruth are the parents of John Calhoun West and Franklin Pierce West, noted Marshalls in the Indian Territory in the late 1800's.

Son George Rider West was born Mar. 18, 1838 in Oklahoma and died May 22, 1863, killed in action near Ft. Gibson, Indian Territory. He served as a Private in 2nd Co. G, 1st Cherokee Mounted Volunteers under Stand Watie. It was thought he was buried at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, but no solid evidence has been found.
