About Sherrod B. Adkins
Sherwood (or Sherrod) Adkins
He was the son of William Vincent Adkins and wife Elizabeth Parker. He was born c.1728 in Virginia and died in 1780 in Virginian. He appears on "A List of Land and Tithes taken by Hugh Innes for Pittsylvania County Anno. Dom. 1767.
He fathered Booker Mullins with Mary Jane Mullins (later Hall). Son Booker (an Adkins by blood) grew up in the Mullins home and used the last name Mullins. All of male descendants of Booker Mullins (who have been Y-DNA tested) are not descended from William Mullins but are instead descended from the Adkins. Note: 'James' is a reprinted error. Booker had no first name according to the Mullins Y-DNA Project in Virginia.
There is now enough evidence (via Y-DNA matches) and from existing records to say with confidence that Booker Mullins, his sons (including David and Sherwood) and his male descendants (including Andrew Jackson Mullins—known as Brandy Jack) have a paternal genetic ancestry that has its origins with that of descendants of William Adkins (who married Elisabeth Parker).
Research has not pinpointed exactly which of William Adkins’ sons or grandsons fathered Booker Mullins, but one of the most likely candidates was a son named Sherwood (Sherrod) Adkins. While we do not have intangible proof of that, we DO have proof that links Booker Mullins and his descendants to the Adkins who descend from William Adkins. The Y-DNA of ALL of the Booker Mullins males tested to date match with the Y-DNA of male descendants of this William Adkins.
