Miss Sophia Margaret Steel (born 1848) Sophia Margaret Steel never married. At the time of the 1881 census she and her sister Marion were still living with their parents at Harrow. By 1901 the two sisters were living with two servants at 11 Bardwell Road. Sophia moved with her sister to 20 Bradmore Road, and died there in 1942: † Miss Sophia Margaret Steel died at 20 Bradmore Road, Oxford at the age of 94 on 24 February 1942 and was buried at St Sepulchre’s Cemetery on 28 February (burial recorded in the parish register of St Giles’s and probably also Ss Philip & James’s Church). Her death notice in The Times on 28 February 1942 read: "STEEL. — On Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1942, at 20, Bradmore Road, Oxford, SOPHIA MARGARET, last surviving daughter of the late THOMAS HENRY STEEL, of The Grove, Harrow, in her 95th year. Funeral at St Sepulchre’s Cemetery, Oxford, to-day (Saturday), at 11 a.m." Her effects came to £1,486 2s. 6d., and her executor was her nephew Claud Godfrey [sic] Steel, who was a chartered accountant.
Note: Claude Godfroy was son of Sophia's brother Charles Godfroy.
