Either by land grant for war service or as one family tale goes for his Kentucky rifle, he got ownership of the entire mouth of Sandlick bottom, Very little remains in family hands today. The history of the churches can be found in the Letcher Co. web pages. Came to this area abt 1803. By 1810 there were 100 families in what is now Letcher Co.
