SPOUSE:) ELIZABETH EDWARDS

According to his military record, Thomas was buried in Trent Cemetery, Appomattox County, VA. I have been told no tombstone for Thomas has been found. It is possible he never had a tombstone or it broke and was removed. He and wife, Elizabeth originally lived in Buckingham County, but they were in the part that later became Appomattox County. He served in the Revolutionary War and lost an arm in the Battle of Monmouth in New Jersey. He received a pension. He married Elizabeth Edwards of Chesterfield County, VA., in Dale Parish on October 3, 1783.

In 1794, Elizabeth's sister, Phoebe and her husband, John Baugh, Jr., died in an accident together. The Prince Edward County Court appointed Thomas Trent the guardian of Phoebe and John's ten children. Their oldest daughter, Nancy Baugh, sued Thomas. She said he gave her a lesser amount of money than the other children from her father's estate. Out come of this lawsuit is unknown. Nancy had already married, so that may have influenced him to give her a lesser amount.

Some descendants believe that Thomas' parents were William A. Trent and his 2nd wife, Mary Patterson. No proof has been found among researchers of documents that William had a 2nd wife or a son named Thomas. Having said that, Thomas had a daughter named Nancy Patterson Trent. William's known wife was Ursula "Ursulla" Branch, daughter of Samuel Branch. His Will does not list a son named Thomas, nor a deed for Thomas from William.
