Tosten and Gunhild moved to Kingsbury Co between the years 1880 - 1882 near Hetland. Tosten worked for the railroad for a number of years and then he farmed south of Hetland. Tosten and Gunhild had sixteen children. They are Ole T, Knudt T, Cornelius T, Carrie, Stiner T, Theodore T, Gayheart, Eddie, Selma, Elmer A, Stiner A, Bertha, Melvina, Melvin, Clarence, and Lyle. No doubt they had a busy and active household.

Tosten moved to the Dakotas with his parents in 1877. He was listed in the 1880 census as single and living with his sister Kari and her family.

Tosten married Gunhild Peterson. Tosten died Feb 18,1910 age 54 and is buried at Whitewood cemetery next to his parents, After a severe illness. A number of years before his death Tosten had lived a consistent Christian life. He had been bedridden for over a month before his death.
