He married Lydia Brown on January 9, 1741 at Barrington, Bristol County, Massachusetts (now Rhode Island). Lydia was born in 1724 at Bristol, the daughter of James Brown III and Elizabeth Hunt Brown.

William, the father, died at the age of seventy-two September 5, 1788 at Bristol and was buried there in the Juniper Hill Cemetery. His wife Lydia died in 1801 and is also buried in the Juniper Hill Cemetery.
