About William Richardson
William was born the 2nd son of Maggie and Clell Richardson. Uncle Will was a good, kind, godly man. He helped people out when they needed it. He worked for state govmt in Frankfort till he retired. In the early years, he worked in Richmond at the Ordinance, during WWII. On the side of hobbies, he loved his dogs and took in the dog trials. He had a home on Richardson Lane in Frankfort, and never left it. He loved his children and especially proud of all their accomplishments. Shirley Ann was the first daughter, then William David, his son, then Dorothy Jean their last child. His wife, Dorothy Triplett, worked at Rebecca Ruth candies most of her working years. Uncle Will was a skilled carpenter and craftsman. Sherman remembers uncle Will having Indian motorcycles. He bought one from the Frankfort police dept that was a 3 wheeler. He just loved to ride. He had a bright red one with a suicide shift on it, Sherman Jr said. He also made wooden dogs, flamingos, and parrots, used as lawn ornaments and sold them on the side of the road. He also made wooden lawn chairs (androndike) and sold them. When I was young, I remember him building cedar chests and cedar wardrobes for people. Sherman Jr told me he had his own business of renovating/repair and the like. Sherman said he liked nothing better than to climb in the truck with uncle Will and work with him, when he was at grandma's staying the summers. He said uncle Will took him to Lexington one day and they worked on an "underground railroad house", that was used to protect the slaves till they could get passage. He said uncle Will loved to listen to the ballgames on the radio, especially Cincinnati Reds when they played and he loved the player Ted Sasuski (sp). He not only loved baseball but played both baseball and softball, at the Fairgounds in Lawrenceburg and the ball field in Frankfort. Sherman remembers he and David going with uncle Will to Lawrenceburg and they stayed in the woods at the Fairgrounds to get all the fouled out balls and toss them back in. He also remembered uncle Will driving for a cab company in Frankfort in the 1950's, for a short while, downtown. All interesting stuff. Uncle Will loved to rabbit hunt and the Richardson men spent many Thanksgivings and Christmas's all hunting together , while at grandma's house on the holidays. After the hunting was done, there was a very competitive rook game that ensued also. He was a lodge member and a church member. I think he belonged to Crestwood Baptist in Frankfort. He loved his chewing tobacco and very rarely did you see him, that he wasn't chewing. He is missed greatly........a kind, Christian man. Info submitted by Linda Gillis Sherwood/McElwain
