Alvarado Cemetery, Empire, Colorado

The Georgetown Cemetery was located on the south shore of the lake at Georgetown, Clear Creek County, Colorado until approximately 1970. At that time the cemetery was moved to the Masonic Alvarado Cemetery. The Masons own the Alvarado cemetery and it is in no way connected to the town of Georgetown nor the county of Clear Creek. The cemetery is located approximately five miles east of Georgetown, Colorado on the I-70 frontage road. Take the Georgetown exit off of I-70, turn left at the 4-way stop when entering the town, and proceed east past the lake.

The cemetery contains approximately 1,050 graves. The cemetery is not maintained and some of the graves are in advanced stages of deterioration with many of the headstones no longer legible. Others are overgrown with vegatation and many of the headstones have sunk into the earth. In addition there are at least 25 areas that appear to be graves but that are unmarked.—Lee & Sandra Smith (Transcribers of the cemetery in 2001).

The cemetery is also known as Alvarado Georgetown Cemetery, Georgetown Cemetery and Alvarado Masonic-Georgetown Cemetery.
