Work in Progres
The objective of this project is to be a repository for contemporary adepts and supporters of the Cathar movement in the 11th-13th century - primarily in the regions of Languedoc and Catalunya.
This repository includes:
Patrons of the Cathar movement were not necessarily believers. Many patrons (local lords, such as the Trencavels) would tolerate the Cathar belief system in opposition to the dominance and perceived excesses of the catholic clergy. More importantly, for many patrons, the Cathar movement was a phenomenon that played straight into the geopolitical cards of that time, specifically between the power of the Crown of Aragon and the French kings. Many of these patrons were, or became, 'faydits' - nobles who were dispossessed of their properties due to the ever-changing alliances in the region.
