Document help: Translation & text deciphering

This project is aimed to offer Geni users some (friendly and non-professional) help with translation and text deciphering of genealogical documents. If you are willing to try and help other users, please join this project as a collaborator.

Guidelines (this is trial-run, rules might change in the future)

  1. If you have a document, please upload it to your Geni document folder and post the link in the discussion section of this project. When you post, please make sure the document has high-enough resolution to read from the screen, or link to a high resolution copy. Please also supply the following details regarding the document, if known:
  • Type (birth, marriage, death etc.)
  • Date
  • Location
  • Names known to be mentioned; and any other relevant info you might have or found in an index.
  1. Each request can be up to one page, requests can be made up to three times a day. For bulk translation jobs we recommend hiring a professional translator.
  2. If your request was answered, please indicate it in a last message closing the discussion.
  3. This project is on trial-run, so please be patient and understanding if a translation takes time or there is no available volunteer translator for your language. Please don’t upload the same document more than once.
  4. Do not approach volunteers and collaborators with private messages unless given specific permission - all translation requests must go through this project only.
