Mormugão comprises of historically renowned places like Vasco da Gama, Cortalim, Sancoale, Cansaulim, Mormugão Port, Chicalim, Arossim, Chicolna, Cuelim, Dabolim, Issorcim, Pale, Quelossim, Velção, Ilha de São Jacinto (São Jacinto Island), Ilha de Pequeno (or Bat Island), Ilha Grande, Ilha de São Jorge, etc...

The provinces of Salcete and Bardes were conquered by the Kingdom of Portugal alongside Vijayanagar allies against the Bijapur Sultanate in 1543; these together with Ilhas de Goa were known as Velhas Conquistas. Salcete consisted of 66 settlements. After signing the Anglo-Portuguese Treaty of 1878, although defunct by 1892, it led to massive development and urbanization. So for the ease of administration, in 1917, the 66 settlements were divided into 35 for Salcete and 31 for a new province of Mormugão. Post-Annexation by invasion of 1961, these provinces were called Talukas or Sub-Districts.This serves as a catalogue to help find your ancestry.
