Immigration Stories

Statistics can not tell the story of immigration, but people can.

What is immigration?

  • Immigration is the movement of people into a destination country to which they are not native or do not possess its citizenship in order to settle or reside there, especially as permanent residents or naturalized citizens
  • Emigration is the act of leaving one's resident country with the intent to settle elsewhere. Conversely, immigration describes the movement of persons into one country from another. Both are acts of migration across national boundaries.

About this project

This project invites descendants of immigrants to create their ancestors emigration and immigration stories and add them to this project.

Many of us will have people in the familytrees who emigrated in order to settle in another country, the aim of this project is to create a collection of emigrants/immigrants and also tell their stories. Everyone loves reading immigrant stories.
This project is an international project therefore emigrants from all countries can be added to this project there is no timeframe immigrant stories from all years can be added.

The stories should be your family story and unique not a copy from a book or something found somewhere else on the internet and/or your own research in order to avoid copyright issues

.

How does this project work?

The profiles added to this project must have the story filled in in the about section of their profile. In other words the profiles must have a (short) biography. Please do not add profiles to this project without a story attached in the about section.

What should be mentioned in the about section?

  • What country did they come from?
  • When did they emigrate?
  • Where did they settle?
  • Also add some information about their life in the country they left where possible and information about their life in the new country, thinking of occupation, marriage, children etc, family lore and/or other facts you would like to share with readers.
