Jewish Rothman Family

Rothman is a pretty rare family name. This site, HowManyOfMe.com, claims that, based on the census data for the USA in 2000, that there are some 6,287 people in the U.S. with the last name Rothman. So putting aside the non-Jewish Irish and Germans who also use this family name, we get a REALLY small group.

My second great grandfather, Avraham "Wolf" Rothman (1856-1941) immigrated to the USA around 1890, from Stryj, Ukraine, known to its Jewish residents as Stryy.

Avraham Rothman had six children, and twenty-one grandchildren, my grandmother, Ruby Kahn (Rothman) among them. So it stands to reason that a large percentage of the present day Rothmans in the USA are most likely his descendants. The aim of this project is to bring attention to this family and reestablish connections with the many disconnected branches, whether they are still named Rothman or not, or are even Jewish (assimilation being what it is).

So, if you're a Rothman or related to one, the grandchildren listed below, might be your very own grandparents, or even great-grandparents. I welcome contact from ANY Rothman anywhere, and their descendants of course. We'll make the connections somehow.

Avraham "Wolf" Rothman, also had three brothers who remained in the Ukraine (Mordechai, Jacob and Shmuel). They had a VERY extensive family. Of this family only a single person was known the survive the Holocaust, the late Shmuel Rothman. It is said that Shmuel created an extensive family-tree of his butchered family. I'm trying to locate that, but his son Moti Rothman eludes my search efforts. May G-d avenge them all!
