Lilith Fair was a groundbreaking concert tour and travelling music festival where the line-up consisted solely of female solo artists and female-led bands. It was founded by Canadian musician Sarah McLachlan, Nettwerk Music Group's Dan Fraser and Terry McBride, and New York talent agent Marty Diamond. The majority of featured acts were from Canada and the United States.
Lilith Fair took place during the summers of 1997 to 1999, and was revived in the summer of 2010. In its initial three years, the festival raised more than $10M (USD) for charity.
Initially mocked by detractors for daring to emphasize women in music as more than mere pop stars, the line-up is now considered to be among the great tours, and many of the headliners continue to be both critically-acclaimed and commercial successes.
