Perthshire, officially the County of Perth, is a registration county of Scotland. It was a local government county from 1890 to 1930.
Prior to the 1890s Perthshire's boundaries were irregular: the parishes of Culross and Tulliallan formed an exclave some miles away from the rest of the county, on the boundaries of Clackmannanshire and Fife; while the northern part of the parish of Logie formed an enclave of Stirlingshire within the county. From 1889, Culross and Tulliallan were transferred to Fife, and the entire parish of Logie was included in Stirlingshire.
The area of Perthshire is nearly in the centre of Scotland, bounded on the north and north-west by Inverness-shire, on the east by the county of Forfar, on the south-east by the counties of Fife and Kinross, on the south by the Firth of Forth and the counties of Stirling and Clackmannan, on the west by Argyllshire, and on the south-west by the county of Dumbarton.

Many of the Perthshire parishes were not neat little areas but split into a number of detached parts. For example parishes like Dull, Crieff and Monzievaird had areas many miles from the main body. A part of Monzievaird was located half way up Glen Artney with a variety of tomb stones in Tullichettle graveyard in what seems to be Comrie Parish but is not. Amulree and Glen Quaich are in a similar vein .
