People who are known in genealogical records by many names. Variants of Christine are the most common, as there are often permutationally thousands of ways to misspell the same proper name.
Census takers were not necessarily smart enough to copy records properly and immigrants not skilled enough in English to spell their own proper names or there was unresolved ambiguity from the moment of immigration to moment of death.
