Objective

This project will collect and merge the profiles for any convict, free settler arrival or military personnel into Western Australia commencing with the establishment of the Swan River Colony in 1829.

Historical Summary

In 1826, the first British military outpost was established at King George Sound. This was followed by the establishment of the Swan River Colony in 1829, with townsites at Fremantle and Perth - later to become the state's capital. The harsh conditions faced by the settlers resulted in population growth being minimal until the discovery of gold in the 1880s. Since the gold rush, the population of the state has risen steadily, with substantial growth in the period since World War II.

How to Participate

If you have an ancestor who was a Pioneer:

1. Get yourself added as a collaborator
2. Navigate to your ancestor's profile
3. Under the "More Actions" link choose "Add to Project"
4. Select the Western Australian Pioneers project

Optional:

• Include in the "About Me" section of each person a brief biographical sketch of their lives.
• Include a photograph of your ancestor if one exists.
• Your pioneer's profiles should be marked as "public" and not "private".
• All included profiles should include full identifying information including birth and death dates as well as birth and death locations. It would also be very helpful if the immediate family of your pioneer ancestor, (their parents, siblings and children) profiles were public profiles also.
• Do not make public any profiles of living people.
• if they arrived from overseas - Add a new label “Immigration to Australia” and include how they arrived (ie convict, free settler, marine), on what ship they arrived and what year they arrived
• if they arrived from overseas - and them to https://www.geni.com/projects/Australian-Pioneers-1788-1900/26654
• if they arrived from other Australian colonies - Add a new label “Immigration to Western Australia - and include the year they arrived

NOTE: All pioneers included on a project will have their pioneer's profiles editable by other geni.com collaborators of that particular project.
