They were the parents of 11 children: Lillie Blanton, Margaret Miller, John Basham, Arthur Hartwell Basham, Vera Alford, Jesse Lee Basham, Ervie Basham, Lawrence Leslie Basham, myrtle McCrady, Leva Basham Vincent, and Herman. Mary Catherine's father had married after the death of her mother and she was raised by her paternal grandfather, Dr. William Crume, whose mother , Mary was a sister to Thomas Lincoln (father of our famous 16th President. Mary Catherine told her daughter-in-law, Jeanette Hazelip Basham, that her grandfather corresponded with Lincoln while they both lived and she had possession of those historical letters, and, at that time, Janette did not feel that there was a rush to see them. She remembered that Catherine was so proud of them. But before she got around to seeing them, Mary Catherine's house burned destroying everything!
