history
The Conquest surname originates from Bedfordshire, England. Earliest known documents show Geoffrey Conquest holding the manor of Houghton (now Houghton Conquest) in 1220 AD. The All Saints Church in Houghton Conquest holds magnificent monuments in memory of Sir John Conquest, Sir Richard Conquest <presumably Richard Conquest, of Houghton Conquest>, Lady Isabel (Gamage) Conquest and Lady Elizabeth (Jellybronde) Conquest, dating from 1493 and 1503. The Conquests held the manor for 500 years, ceasing their tenure with Benedict Conquest before 1750. Other branches of the family moved on to London in the 1600s and then the American Colonies, Australia, India, Ireland and other destinations.
