About the Garmonsway surname

The New Zealand Garmonsway family are descended from Royal New Zealand Fencible Edward Watts Garmonsway and his wife Letitia Ann Garmonsway (nee King) who arrived on board the Inchinnan on 27 May 1852. The Fencible's were retired soldiers from Britain and Ireland who enlisted as a military reserve in the town of Auckland. Letitia's mother was Ann Gordon (nee King) was superintendent and matron of the Female Factory at Parramatta in New South Wales, Australia.

In 1983 a booklet was produced to commemorate the Garmonsway family reunion held 16-17 April in Cambridge, New Zealand, by Barbara Kelly, Julie Fox and Peter Wood (1983). The booklet was called, Edward Garmonsway and Letitia King: Their descendants.
