I am looking to make contact with any persons with the surname of Maciver who have connections with the Scottish Island of Lewis.
My Grand-mother was a Maciver. Her paternal forebears lived in the village of Swordale in the Eye Peninsula of Lewis. They originated in the village of North Tolsta. I also had Maciver ancestors on the maternal side of my family; they lived in the village of Barvas on the West Side of the island.
I am also curious about the earlier origins of the family. Traditions claim that the Macivers arrived on Lewis in the early 17th Century as allies of the invading Mackenzies. I have been told that there are two distinct lines of Macivers in Lewis and I would also be curious to hear from present day Macivers who have carried out any genetic research into the history of the family.
Many Thanks
Donnie Macdonald
