ftdna Sakowicz project https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/sakowicz/about/background

The oldest mention of the Sakowicz family appears in the context of the Polish-Lihuanian union in Horodlo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_of_Horod%C5%82o in 1413. On that occasion Stanislaw Sak, a Lithuanian noble, was granted with the Pomian coat of arms. His descendants were known as Sakowicze. After a brief period of prosperity, the family descended into obscurity. Currently there are close to 3000 of Sakowicz family members living in Poland and over 300 in the US. We would like to uncover lost family connections and trace our common ancestors.

Najstarsza wzmianka o rodzie Sakowiczów pochodzi z czasów Unii Horodelskiej (1413) na której Litewski bojar Stanisław Sak otrzymał herb Pomian. Jego potomkowie znani byli jako Sakowicze. Ród ten po krótkim okresie świetności popadł w zapomnienie. Obecnie żyje w Polsce około 3000 osób o tym nazwisku, a w USA ok. 300 osób. W naszym projekcie chcielibyśmy odkryć te zapomniane połączenia rodzinne i odnaleźć naszych wspólnych przodków.
