About Elizabeth Ford

Elizabeth Keith (1745-1821) was the youngest daughter born to Rev. James and Mary Isham (Randolph) Keith. In 1776 she would marry Edward Ford, Sr. (1738-1814). Ford was the son of Thomas Ford and Jane Milstead,

            Her father, James Keith was a grandson of the tenth and Last hereditary Earl Mareschal of his race in Scotland, who was involved in disastrous schemes for a restoration of the Stuarts, retreated to Virginia, where he married Mary Isham Randolph, mother of Elizabeth.

Copied from the book, "Memorial History of Louisville from its First Settlement to the Year 1896: Edited by J. Stoddard Johnston: Vol. 1;

"After the downfall of the Stuarts and its ensuing confiscations, a branch of the family came to Virginia, settled in Prince William County on the Occoquan River a tributary of the Potomac, and engaged in tobacco planting, then the chief agricultural industry of tidewater Virginia, and there was born in 1738 Edward Ford. His wife was Betty Keith. In anticipation of removal to Kentucky, Edward Ford in 1793 began the purchase of lands in Bourbon County in thehstate of Kentucky at the confluence of Green and Strodes Creeks. A deed of that date is of record in the archives of the County Court reciting the conveyance to him from Richard Masterson of 460 acres of land. He soon afterwards came to Kentucky with his family, where the remainder of his life was passed and there he died in 1814, leaving thirteen children (six sons and seven daughters ), eleven of whom lived to be more than eighty years of age, and this numerous posterity has become allied with many of the principal families of Central Kentucky.

             If tradition may be trusted, his wife was one of the most accomplished and elegant women of her time."

The children of Edward Ford 1738-1814 and Elizabeth Keith Ford 1745-1821 are as follows: Sarah Jane Ford Clark 1767-1835 Priscila Ford Sangster 1768-1835 Judith Ford Simpson 1769-1819 Mary Ford Winn 1770-1796 Behethland (Hattie) Hester Ford Ashmore 1771- Susan Ford Rogers 1772-1830 Elizabeth Eliza Ford Thompson 1773-1844 William Ford 1774-1830 Thomas Randolph Ford 1776-1860 Captain Charles Fleming Ford 1778-1850 James Keth Ford 1778-1856 John Ford 1779-1851 Edward Ford Jr. 1780-1868
