Frederick Goss, Jr.

A Patriot of the American Revolution for NORTH CAROLINA. DAR Ancestor # A046372

Frederick Goss, Jr. is the same as Frederick Goss II. He is first born son of Elizabeth "Betsy" Gassin/Goss née Richards/Reichert b ? - d 1754 near Ephrata, PA and Frederick Gass/Goss b 1701 Rothenfluh, BL d NC 1778 (sometimes called "Sr" and sometimes called "I" as in First Frederick Goss in America). Family tradition says he was born in Europe and came with his parents to Pennsylvania as a small child. This second Frederick Gass, Jr. (II) in America also had a son named Frederick (III), and thus was in later life called Frederick Goss, Sr. The first "hard documentation" for this Frederick Gass is his appearance on a roster of Rowan County, NC Militia called out to defend against Cherokee indian raids in 1759. Deeds, marriage ban, 1790 census, will and church records provide additional documentation.

This Frederick Goss is not described right to be the one married to Isabella (Rickard) Goss. I am totally unaware of any of the many Frederick Gosses in my clan born in 1744 in Bladen County, NC. Frederick Goss, Jr. son of Fredericfk Gass/Goss, Sr. b 1701 (who was the first Frederick Gass/Goss or our Swiss/German clan in America) was born between 1719 and 1738 most probably between 1721 & 1725. After his father "Fred" died and his son "Fred" was born he started being called Frederick Goss, Sr. which is why I like to call him Frederick Goss II. However, bare in mind that while he was likely born in Switzerland or elsewhere in Europe, he is of the 3rd generation of our clan in America. He, his father, grandfather & uncle (both named Jacob) and his mother (thought to be Elizabeth "Betsy" Richards Gass) and one other un-named child or female (perhaps his Aunt Anna Maria or sister Catherina) arrived on Ship James Goodwill in September, 1727.

Blanden County and 1744 can not be correct for this Frederick Gass/Goss.

Frederick Gass/Goss Jr or #2 was NOT born in Colebrookdale, Berks County in part because it did not exist in 1725 and 2nd because his family arrived in Philadelphia in 1727. There was a Frederick Goss living or owning property in Berks County in mid 18th century and he may be this Frederick; however, the subject Frederick was definitely not born in Berks County.
