His wife Hannah joined the church at Milford June 23, 1644, when their first four children were baptized. He removed to Hadley, Mass., about 1663. Ch.:

He was the son of Richard Baldwin and Isabel Harding. Joseph Baldwin married as his first wife Hannah Whitlock, daughter of John Whitlock, on 10 November 1636 in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England. He married as his second wife Isabel Ward sometime after 1661. She was the widow of John Catlin (d. bef. July 17, 1644) and James Northram (d. bef. Feb. 27, 1661). Joseph Baldwin married as his third wife Elizabeth Gibbons on 17 September 1678. She was the widow of Luke Hitchcock (d. Nov. 1, 1659) and (2) William Warriner (d. Jun 2, 1676). links:

JOSEPH BALDWIN (16__-1690) by wife, Hannah, had four sons and five daughters. About 1663 he removed to Hadley; was a freeman there in 1666. He married for a second wife Mrs. Isabel (Ward) Northam, widow of James Northam of Hartford, and before that a widow of John Catlin; her son, John Catlin married Mary Baldwin, one of Joseph's daughters. For a third wife he married Mrs. Elizabeth (Gibbons) Warriner; d. April 26, 1696, widow of William Warriner (d. 1676) of Springfield; he died 1690 at Hadley.

This person is interesting in that he is the start of a line that includes us (descendants of his daughter Sarah) as well as the 43rd president of the United States (descendant of his son Benjamin).

Joseph Baldwin and Hannah Whitlock immigrated circa 1639. He first appeared in Milford, CT in Nov 1639. He joined the church in Milford, New Haven Colony (in what is now Connecticut) on 23 June 1644. Four of their children were baptized on the same day, 23 June 1644.

Joseph Baldwin lived in Hadley, Massachusetts Bay Colony, circa 1663. He left a will on 20 December 1680.

Joseph Baldwin was the son of Richard Baldwin and Isabel Harding Baldwin of Cholesbury,Buckinghamshire.

He married, first, Hannah Whitlock, on Nov 10,1636 at High Wycombe, Co.Suffolk, England.

With his wife, he immigrated to New England with his two brothers, Nathaniel Baldwin and Timothy Baldwin.

The three brothers came to New Haven first and then to Milford where they received homelots and settled. Joseph & Hannah were the parents of four sons and five daughters. Hannah died in 1662, and the next year he removed to Hadley, Mass. He was a freeman there in 1666 and married his second wife, Isabella Ward, widow of John Catlin and James Northam. By her first marriage, Isabella was the mother of John Catlin Jr. Joseph married, third, Elizabeth Gibbons, widow of Luke Hitchcock and William Warriner.

Hannah Whitlock Baldwin was the first wife of Joseph Baldwin, married on Nov. 10, 1636 in High Wycombe, Co.Bucks, England.
They set sail along with Joseph's two brothers, Nathaniel Baldwin and Timothy Baldwin, for America. By 1646, the three brothers and their wives were living in and founding fathers of Milford CT, having first lived in New Haven. After Hannah's death in 1661, Joseph removed to Hadley, Mass.

He became a freeman in 1666.

Joseph married, second, Isabella Ward, widow of John Catlin and James Northam of Hartford. By her first marriage, Isabella was the mother of John Catlin Jr.

Joseph married, third, Elizabeth Gibbons, widow of Luke Hitchcock and William Warriner.

When his wife Hannah Whitlock died he married c 1671 Isabel Ward Catlin Northam, one of the original settlers of Newark from Branford in 1666. She had moved to Hadley, Massachusetts and married 2nd James Northam who died in 1670. When Isabel died in Hadley in 1676, Joseph Baldwinmarried a third time to Elizabeth Gibbons Hitchcock Warriner, widow of Luke Hitchcock and then widow of William Warriner. Joseph and HannahWhitlock Baldwin had nine children, and two of their sons, Jonathan and Benjamin are our ancestors. Jonathan Baldwin, 1648/9-1739, son of Joseph, married Hannah Ward, sister to Dorcas who married Joseph Harrison, Sr., also our ancestors. Jonathan and Hannah had six children. John Baldwin, 1683-1773, son of Jonathan, was one of the settlers of Newark, where he married Mary Crane, daughter of Azariah Crane, another ofthe original settlers. Benjamin Baldwin, 1642-1729, son of Joseph, and his wife Hannah Sergeant were among the early settlers of Newark, New Jersey in 1667. Benjamin Baldwin's half bushel measure was so much respected that it was made the standard for others to measure by, in Newark, New Jersey. Benjamin 2nd, son of Benjamin, was born in that partof Newark known as South Orange about 1680-1690. Aaron Baldwin, son of Benjamin 2nd, was born in South Orange in 1717 and owned and died inthe stone house (standing 1896) on the NW corner of South Orange Av and Munn Av, in South Orange. ref.
