"Funeral of Mrs. John King Sunday"
Mrs. Julia Barton King, age 84, died at her home early Friday morning after an illness of several months. She was the daughter of the late Darling and Jane Caskey Barton and widow of the late John King who preceded her 19 years ago.
Mrs. King was a native of Lancaster county and a resident of this city for more than 40 years. Hers was a long and useful life - faithful in all its responsibilities. She was a loyal member of the First Baptist church. A devoted mother, "Her children rise up and call her blessed."
She is survived by the following children: J.P. King, Spartanburg, S.C., and Brunswick, Ga.; John M. King, Rocky Mount, N.C.; C.J. King, Sacaton, Arizona; Miss Mildred King, Prescott, Arizona; C.S. King, Miss Belle King and Mrs. Nancy Townsend of Lancaster.
She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 6 granddaughters, 7 grandsons. All grandsons are in the service of their country, two of whom are overseas, 8 great grand children, and one brother, W.H.R. Barton of Lancaster.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the First Baptist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.F. Burriss assisted by Rev. D.M. Rivers of Gaffney. Interment was in West Side Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were: B.L. Gardner, Jas. W. Mahaffey, Ernest Caskey, Bill Reeves, Meldeau Stoll, Cecil Funderburk.
Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of the church and Dr. R.L. Crawford.
Flower bearers were: Mrs. Henry Pardue, Mrs. John Butters, Miss Sadie Blackmon, Mrs. B.L. Gardner, Mrs. J.W. Mahaffey, Mrs. Crawford Rutledge, Mrs. C.L. Melton, Mrs. H.A. Funderburk, Mrs. Leo Montgomery and Mrs. Bill Reeves.
Those from out-of-town who attended the funeral were: Jno. M. King, Rocky Mount, N.C., Mr. and Mrs. J.P. King, Spartanburg, Miss Emily King, Columbia, Mrs. Mattie L. King, Mr. and Mrs. Pryor King and daughters, Mrs. Mary L. Smith and son and Mrs. Anabel Long, Charlotte, N.C., Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Crow, Jr., and Bill III, Goldsboro, N.C., Mrs. Wm. P. Townsend, Bennettsville, S.C., Mrs. Jno. F. Townsend, Cheraw, Mr. and Mrs. E.B. Townsend, Salisbury, N.C., Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Caksey, Heath Springs and Dan Mahaffey of Great Falls.
