About the Whittington surname

My Grand Father was born and raised and Died around Jackson, MS. His last name was Whittington. I live in Mass and we don't know any of our family from down there. He died when my dad was 10.

Also I know this last name is based in England I'm African American so I'm not to sure how my family got the name. Maybe slavery or interracial dating.
