Monday Recap for the Week of Nov. 8-14, 2010
The Genealogy Sphere
- On Genealogy: Be smart about tracking down needed records (broomfieldenterprise) – Julie Miller provides some guidance for saving time while searching for historical records.
- Nominate a Genealogy Blog for the 2011 Family Tree 40 (Family Tree Magazine) – Due to the popularity of last year’s Top 40 list, Family Tree magazine is at it again…hurry, go nominate your favorite genealogy blogs!
- What type of genealogist are you? (Atlanta Journal Constitution) – This is an interesting debate, and while the article highlights two camps (traditional researches versus internet-only researchers), common sense would dictate that the ideal ground for genealogy is somewhere in the middle.
- Familypedia: the Biggest Genealogy Site You Probably Never Heard Of (Dick Eastman) – Another great, collaborative resource. The more these sites appear, the better for genealogists.
- Telling Your Story (The Miami Herald) – Review of Liz Coursen’s new book The Complete Biography Workbook (available here), which provides a roadmap for creating a biography (or auto-biography).
- A Day to Remember Veterans (Geneabloggers) – A shared collection of touching memorials from Veteran’s Day. Thanks to Geneabloggers for putting this together.
- 23andMe lands $22M to expand personal genetics research (Reuters) – The personal genetics company raises additional funding to accelerate genetic research. It will be interesting to see how genetics and genealogy continue to converge.
- Why I Love my Flip-Pal (Maureen Taylor) – The personal, portable scanner seems to be a huge hit with genealogists.
