King David my 101 GG.... Can anyone help me understand the validity of my path.... Where along the line for me does it become undocumented/and do all religions follow the same understanding of Lineage? Is this unusual or do many people find paths here?

You can believe as you like, but there is little evidence supporting links from “the ancient world” to contemporary people.

The way to do your genealogy is from yourself, documenting generation at a time. If you are like most of us, you’ll run out of evidence in the 1500s / 1600s, when Europe’s Parish Records can be found.

In Judaism you can reach to King David through several branches
One of the branches isThrough Bustanai Ben Haninai.
This is the way in your family tree, yes you are a descendant of King David

I am also very suspicious of the lineage!!

King David of Israel

Kimberly if youre interested you can find plenty conversations in that link already existing and explained from many different views. It can be that most of us are descendants of him as to many other interesting ancestors, as mathematical fact (or not :) ) but hard to prove it in any way. Also there has been times when royals paid to have lineage to him ;)

The only ones who can know with certainty are descendants of rabbinical families and dynasties,

He is also my 101 GG. Like you and Michael Christopher Pyle who commented earlier, my line with King David goes through James IV of Scotland.

This lineage was written by Moses of Chorene...
and it is very antique and studied and analyzed from various centuries, whether some told to be untrue likely others say that is true

Like Haim Wartski, HaCohen, our family descended, in part, from many generations of rabbis who claim to be direct descendents of King David. Most of the legit geneologists will agree this is pretty much impossible to prove. But, at this point, Geni's curators have weeded out most of the fake profiles from the Dark Ages, etc. As many of Europe's "regal" lines and wealthy old families also claim connection to King David through the Exilarchs, it makes sense that a family such as yours would have a "connection," particularly through marriages through Spanish royalty.... Fun Sunday night cocktail conversation during marathon viewing of Downton Abbey -- or The White Princess!

7/28/2019 at 7:53 PM

I have two paths to him.

He is my 99th great grandfather this way....

https://www.geni.com/path/Diana+is+related+to+King-David-of-Israel?...

And, I can't show you direct person to person path the other way...because geni will only show me the SHORTEST all blue path....so he is also my 100th great grandfather because Joan Beaufort, Queen of Scots is my 16th great grandmother....and King David of Israel is Joan Beaufort, Queen of Scots' 84th great grandfather

https://www.geni.com/path/Diana+is+related+to+Joan-Beaufort-Queen-o...

https://www.geni.com/path/Joan-Beaufort-Queen-of-Scots+is+related+t...

7/28/2019 at 9:51 PM

I am a descendant of him from a number of branches. In every examination I conducted with non-Jews, one picture emerges: the connection is through the branch of Bustanai ben Hannai(Through his non-Jewish mother, who converted to Judaism when she married him)

7/28/2019 at 10:33 PM

I am through Scottish lines, I don’t believe it, and I think we should find the cut points.

There is an English link through a Portuguese princess (I think Fatima) that is arguable.

The real scholarship is in the Rabbinic lines mentioned, and that’s the study of experts.

The rest of us should be questioning and posting the problematic links.

As a Jew with a ha’Levi line I find it distasteful that Geni Links me erroneously in this way. But I can’t fix it without help.

What help do you need?
I am a direct descendant of rabbinical families and dynasties, and I am also interested in putting an end to this.
Many people are interested (for various reasons) to show a direct connection to King David, and falsify family trees that come to him
I suggested at the time that all profiles of the kings of Israel would be locked master profiles, and I am willing to cooperate, and volunteer my family tree, and put this end to

7/29/2019 at 3:12 AM

Erica Howton
By the way, I would be happy if curators familiar with the three religions were checking the whole issue.
It is strange to me that I am a jew, direct descendant of rabbinical families and dynasties, and the algorithm shows me that I have great grandparents Christians and Muslims.
If they checked and it turned out to be true, then everything is fine, but to me it seemed odd
And if they need help, I'll be happy to help

I like this answer the best. The farther back you go, the more skeptial you must think of it. There is a guy I know I am related to. But short of a DNA test, I can only say possible related, according to.

I wish I already had the knowledge you guys seem to have this is a highly fascinating subject and I feel like I'm just at the beginning to even trying to understand it.... I'm following along the discussion, Thank you everyone

Kimberly Danielle Cook I see, but sometimes he is your 101 ggf, and sometimes he is not. It depends much on how happy they are with things, the "ones" cutting a lot and sometimes bites off too large chunks from the tree, but remember, they are mostly not any good at tree surgeon, guess that most of them also tries hard to understand what they know little about.

8/4/2019 at 1:12 PM

Haim Wartski, (HaCohen) - it extremely likely you have grandparents in other religions -DEPENDING on how far back you go ... remember that each generation back, DOUBLES the numbers of parents for that generation: ie - 1 have 2 parents, 4- grand parents, 8, 2great, 16 - 3 great, etc., When you get back 10 generations which is usually looked to be between 200 and 250 years ago, you have 1,024 9-great grandparents. So it should NOT be difficult to imagine there were inter-marriages then just like there are now ...
20 generations = 1,046,576 grandparents in THAT generation - only 400 to 500 years ago !!!
Hope this is of some assistance.

8/4/2019 at 1:48 PM

Haim Wartski, (HaCohen) - I must earnestly disagree with you about any DIRECT AND DOCUMENTED linage to King David. There are no (that means ZERO) authorities within the Jewish communities of research and or authorities within any of the major divisions of Judaism that acknowledges any known linage to King David. Every single path is highly suspect and all authorities acknowledge the lack of verifiable information concerning any suggested path. Even the great Maimonides would not make that claim and he lived in the later half of the 12th century.
I would suggest that very few of us is a decedent - in any aspect - from King David, who it is suggested to have lived approximately 1,000 BCE (before the common era). That date would be about 3,000 years ago. If you allocate 20 to 25 years to a generation, that would be somewhere between 120 and 150 generations ago. IF you only say 100 generations, that means EACH on of us has approximately 1 BILLION grandparents in that generation. Check out the studies of human population growth; the world's population did not reach 1 BILLION until the 17 to 1800's. This kind of lineage tracing is simply not scientifically sound.
I hope this helps - but I am also certain that anyone who wants to establish their linage to historical figures of the past will certainly find a way to make it happen ...

Good luck

8/4/2019 at 1:56 PM

Haim Wartski, HaCohen we’d love your help (and anyone else also!). It would be wonderful to get a community effort going to take the Geni tree to the next level of excellence, and in this area that interests so many, and perhaps is a doable project.

This is what I’m thinking about as process, feedback welcome.

1. Join this project as a collaborator https://www.geni.com/projects/Testing-for-Fake-Medieval-and-Ancient... and follow the testing suggestions - and invite more collaborators also. Working within that framework gets the attention of some of our most experienced curators. Make sure our Biblical and Rabbinical experts are collaborating also, invite them if not: we need the Hebrew language skills especially, because we can “also” take this testing effort as an opportunity to enhance the curated tree with multiple languages and relationship locks.

2. Probably the same process for the Biblical tree project.

3. Of course feel free to add citations to profiles, that helps a lot.

4. Tag profiles that need locking. Any curator can lock a Master profile; my only hesitation would be if the profile could use enhancing: in that case the curator (or a curator with area / language expertise) can do both at once. Easier to do a family group. Tag the curator or use this discussion.

5. If a profile in your path’s genealogy is questionable or obscure, two possibilities:

A. Research yourself and add notes. If your finding disputes the Geni tree, start a discussion from profile with your claim and suggested action; tag curator and / or “area experts” to help examine.

B. Often it’s a tech error (profile In wrong place etc). In that case any curator can fix by posting to the “Curator please assist” discussion, include action needed and why.

6. Let’s continue using this discussion for King David of Israel issues. The test project notes we may well have a path but there are no known descendants at this time.

8/4/2019 at 2:01 PM

By the way, I found my false Scots connections (quite a few actually) and now my connection to King David is here:

Dª. Beatrice de Pinto

“Ancestry uncertain.”

So perhaps those of us who claim a descent from her should weigh in on whether to maintain this parentage.

8/4/2019 at 2:20 PM

There’s been no evidence offered for her parents despite a call for it back in April:

https://www.geni.com/discussions/195433?msg=1292066

So I’ve disconnected.

I now show King David as 104th gg via Ripsimia

As I've written before (and I believe you will agree), the only ones who can (truly) prove to a generation's generation that they are the direct descendants of King David are descendants of rabbinic families and dynasties
In geni (sadly) there are many family trees, some of which are full of mistakes, and some of them are full of forgeries and fantasies and imaginations.
I personally, can't seem to understand why people fake contacting to him.
I am a direct descendant of the kozker rebbe, He always sought the truth, so he educated his children, so they educated their children, so my parents educated me
It is not always popular to speak and write truth, but it is what I have learned, so I ask and implore, Geni curators, first thing is to lock the profiles of all the kings of Israel
Secondly, to work on the biblical tree and clear from it all the mistakes, fakes, and fantasies that exist in it.
One last thing: In a merger accidentally (last week) someone who is one of King David's profile managers (I know who he is, and he didn't do it on purpose), there is a mistake, and I need a curator to get things back as they were
btw: I am also one of his profile managers, I also received the message, and I preferred that Curator handle this
