Alice was the 4th of seven children of Franklin Rowe and Mary Elizabeth Noyes.

Alice Augusta Rowe b. 9 April 1868 m. 1 June 1892 Rev Niels Peder Johnson Mr Johnson had charge of a Methodist church at Hecla, Brown county, South Dakota
Alice had an unusual ability as a speaker and attended Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, IA She also attended Morningside college, Sioux City, IA 1890-1891. She became a missionary to the Mormons under the Methodist church where she met and married Rev. Nels Peder Johnson.
The family moved to South Dakota in 1898 where she assisted her husband in the service of the Methodist Conference until his retirement in 1929. She and Nels had 10 children, many of whom were missionaries or ministers.
