About Caroline Kraeger

Constableville, Feb 9 [1943] -- Mrs and Mrs William Kraeger quietly celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday at their home on West Main street.
Owing to the storm and severe winter and three of their sons being in service, they had no celebration. A daughter, Mrs Edward Croniser and her son, Karl Croniser, and their son, Walter Kraeger, were with their parents Sunday.
William Kraeger and Miss Caroline Lehn were married at Indianola, Neb., Feb. 7, 1893, with Rev Father Sproll performing the ceremony. They were attended by Miss Barbara Carp and Pells Lehn. The bridesmaid is deceased and the best man is still living.
Mrs Kraeger is the daughter of the late Balser and Mary Hoffert Lehn. She was born at Fish Creek, Feb 25, 1865. Mr Kraeger, son of the late Andrew and Mary Hess Kraeger, was born at Mohawk Hill, Sept. 12, 1874.
Mr and Mrs Kraeger drove 18 miles with horses to be married. They lived three years in Nebraska and then moved to the town of West Turin. They lived for several years on the farm now owned and operated by their son, Henry Kraeger, and family at Mohawk Hill. About 20 years ago they retired from farming and purchased the home where they now live. Both are enjoying good health. While at Mohawk Hill they were faithful members of St Michael's church. Since their residence here they have been loyal members of St Mary's Church.
On Monday morning Rev. W A Nugent celebrated a high mass at St Mary's church for them and on Tuesday Rev Father Nugent celebrated a high mass for them, sponsored by the Alton-Rosary society of St Mary's church.
They are the parents of 17 children, two dying in infancy. A son, Albert, died in the World War I in July, 1918; a daughter, Miss Magdalene, died in February, 1919, and a son, Ambrose, passed away in January, 1929.
The children living are Simon of Lowville, Henry of Mohawk Hill, Mrs Edward (Amanda) Croniser of Mohawk Hill, Sylvester of Rome, Laurence of Talcottville, Walter, at home, Cpl Raymond Kraeger of Fort Ethan Allen, Vt., Edward, Herman, of Port Leyden, Pfc. Ernest Kraeger, who is in California, Mrs Eugene (Margaret) Kraeger of Port Leyden, and Staff Sgt Benjamin Kraeger of Columbia Air Base, N. C.
