Biography
Charles was the son of John Holdaway and Amelia Eyles, formerly of eastern Hampshire, England. He was born in 1845 at the family homestead at Maitai, Nelson, New Zealand.
He married Helen Ramage Miller Mair in Nelson<ref name="obituary">"The Late Mr. C. Holdaway: Particulars of Career", Pahiatua Herald, Volume XXXV, Issue 10470, 16 February 1927, Page 5.
