Christian Carstens, born in Lübeck, Germany, moved to Denmark, and become the mayor of Tønder, probably in 1566 (or died at that year). He is the ancestor of the Danish branch of the family Carstens.

His brother Frederik, again, is the ancestor of the Finnish branch of the family, or perhaps rather a son to Frederik, Henrik Carstens who also became a Mayor, the first Mayor of Helsinki.
