Nehemiah Blakiston was Governor of the Maryland colony from 1691 through 1692. He became Governor as the 2nd Leader of a group known as the Protestant Associators, succeeding John Coode, who has taken control of the state following the Glorious Revolution in England. Blakiston was succeeded by the first Governor with an official royal appointment, Lionel Copley. He was related to Nathaniel Blakiston.

Nehemiah Blakiston is the son of John Blakiston ans Susan Chambers. He married Elizabeth Gerard daughter of Thomas Gerard and Sussanna Snow.
He was a Colonel. He came to America in 1668 as a free adult. In March1678/9 h e sued because of a false arrest. He stated he married May 6, 1669 to Elizabeth, dau. of Thomas Gerard Esq. with the consent of her father. He was an attorney of the Provincial Court.
He was commissioned Capt. of a troop of horse in St . Mary's Co. Militia. On April 21 1691 he was appointed Chief Justice of the Provincial Court of Maryland and in the same year Speaker of the Assembly.
He was commissioned as Colonel abt. April 9 1692 as he was on Apr. 8 a Capt. and thereafter a Col. He was living Aug 25 1693 but deceased by Dec. 11, 1693. Madame Elizabeth Blackiston was cited to administer on the estate of her late husband Col. Nehemiah Blackiston. She married second Ralph Rymer about 1696 and third Joshua Guibert of St. Mary's Co. Her will dated Dec. 15 1715 was proved Oct. 2,1716.
With John Coode and Kenelm Cheseldine he was a prominent leader in the revolution of 1689 which overthrew Lord Baltimore's government. He became head of the interim government in 1690. Lengthy controversy over the settlement of his estate. In the book "Early Manor and Plantation Houses of Maryland" by H. Chandlee Forman, 1934, is the following: "Blackistone House or Longworth Point was built about 1684 by the Gardiners. It was the home of Nehemiah Blackistone when he was President of the Council in 1690."

Mother: Susannah (Susan) Harrison, widow of Roger Chambers[4] Occupation: Member of Parliament, for Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1641; Mayor of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1645. Spouse: Elizabeth Gerard, daughter of Thomas Gerard, Gent. of St. Clements, Basford and Westwood Manors, St. Mary's County, Maryland and Westmoreland County, Virginia [see GERARD 19 for her Ancestry, Richardson, Douglas; Royal Ancestry][5] Children: 1. John Blakiston 2. Susanna Blakiston m. Thomas Hatton, and John Attaway 3. Rebecca Blakiston m. Thomas Walters 4. Mary Blakiston m. Matthew Mason Elizabeth Blakiston left a will dated 15 December 1715, proved 2 October 1716.[6]
Nehemiah Blakiston Gent. migrated to New England during the Puritan Great Migration (1620-1640).
