About David Morse Churchill
David Moss / Morse Churchill was born in Northfield ,Ct in 1804. He lived just across the Naugatuck River in the South Western corner of Harwinton Ct. This area was then known as "Campville'. His house still stands on corner of Mansfield Rd & Campville Hill Rd.. He married Sally Mariah Hine of Milford,Ct. They had eight children. Four of the eight would die between ( 1848-1850 ). This was the same time as one of the worse outbreaks of Cholera in US history. He would die in 1859 of Tuberculosis....what was then known as " Consumption" . It would be another 50 years until a vaccine was discovered. Of his surviving children, The eldest , Anna B ( Churchill ) Catlin, would marry Charles Catlin. Charles would die in New Orleans during the Civil War, leaving his widow Anna & their six children. She would live to be 69 years old. The second born, Alma B was born ( 10-9-1831).Charles Carrol Churchill ( my GG Grandfather ) was the sixth born. He would also serve in the Civil War with the First Connecticut Heavy Artillery. He would be stationed in Petersburg , Virginia for the "Seige of Petersburg" where he would meet his future wife ( Alice F. Dillon ).David is buried in Harwinton's South Cemetery along with his wife Sally and several of thier children. Charles is buried nearby in Harwinton's West Cemetery.

Harwinton July 23 1860
Pursuant to an order from thee court of Probate for the District of Harwinton directing me to sell so much of the real estate of David M Churchill deceased as would raise the sum of eighty seven & 66/100 dollars. i sold after advertising the same as directed, at private sale, all the _________ and interest which the deceased had in a piece of land situated in the west part of Harwinton bounded b North & East on lands of Lewis L Butler and South and West on highway containing about twenty acres more or less, for the sum of fifty dollars to Sally M Churchill and executed a deed therefore. It being all the real estate owned by deceased.
