ELISHA BOYD SIMMONS obituary:

Following a 3 weeks illness Elisha Boyd Simmons departed this life december 3, 1949 at the Community Hospital in Beloit Kansas. He was born to Adolphus and Sarah Simmons February 20, 1868 at Dahlonega, Georgia. He had reached the age of 81 years, 9 months and 14 days. At the age of 14 he left Georgia and with his parents went to Platte County, Missouri. Three years later in 1885, the family established a pioneer home at the Saltville community, 14 miles south of Beloit, Kansas, in Mitchell County.

In 1900 he accompanied his parents to Barnard, Kansas, where he then spent 45 years of his life. He was associated with the Robinson Grain Company as a buyer. With his brother, Avery, he was engaged in the livestock industry. In 1902, he took the degrees of Master Masonry. "Lish" as he was known by his friends, was admired for his true convictions of life. He was always generous of his time and ever ready to assist those in need.

Following a serious illness in February 1945, he continued to make his home in Beloit. He was one of a family of eleven children: Susanna, Rachel, Squire, James, William, Mary Joseph Elijah, and Nancy Louemma, all who have preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Martha Borgen, Asherville and his brother, Avery Simmons, Barnard, no residing in California.

Pall bearers were: Percy Kaul, Fred Donabauer, A.H. Gurley, Fred Simmons, Rex Borgen, Orth Borgen, all relatives of the deceased. Music was furnished by the Saltville trio, Mrs. Frank Simmons, Mrs. Albert Blanding, and Mrs. Otis Pruitt, accompanied by Mrs. Fred Simmons. Burial was at Saltville cemetery.
