Sarah Katherine Garren was born Dec. 5, 1834 in Buncombe County, N. C. to John M. & Susan Garren. She married Adolphus D. Simmons on Aug. 22, 1850,in Gilmer Co., Georgia. Their children were Susanna Levisa simmons m. James Madison Gurley Rachel Elizabeth Simmons m. Benjamin c. McDonald Squire John Simmons James Patton Simmons m. elizabeth Lingerfelt William Hardy Simmons m. 1) Hattie M. Cole, 2) Mabel Alics Beach Mary Caroline Simmons Joeph Elijah Simmons m. Mary Ann White Elisha Boyd Simmons Avery Simmons m. Phebe Augusta Robinson Martha Emaline Simmons m. William David Borgen Nancy Louemma Simmons m. Jacob Kaul.
Obituary: Sarah Catherine Garren simmons was born in buncombe, N.C., Dec. 5, 1834, and died April 14th, 1908, aged 73 years, 4 months and 9 days. She was married aug. 22, 1850 to Adolphus Simmons in Gilmer County, Georgia. In the spring of 1852 they moved to Lumpkin County Georgia, where they lived until 1882, when they moved to Platte County, Missouri. In 1885 they moved to Mitchell County, Kansas, and in 1900 came to this place.
There were eleven children born to this union, nine of whom still survive, four daughters and five sons: Mrs. Anna Gurley, Mrs. Rachel E. McDonald, Mrs. Emma Kaul, Miss Martha, Wm. H., E. B. and Ave, who reside here: J. P., who resides at Vassar, Okla., and J.E. who resides at Cheyenne, Wyo.
She had been in failing health for more than a year and had been very low for about five weeks. All the children were present for several days prior to death, and she was ale to recognize them and converse with them until a short while before her going. The husband and father preceded her by about four years. There are 11 living grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was converted in early life and in 1870 joined the Baptist chuch of which she had been a consistent member ever since. The influence of her life has been a benediction to all who knew her, and especially to all the members of the fmaily and neighbors.
Funeral Services were held at the Baptist church today (Thursday). Rv. Clarke preaching the sermon. The remains were interred in Saltville cemetery.
