William Simmons remarried after the death of his wife Hattie to Mabel Alice Beach. He lived for another 23 years and was buried in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS, with his second wife. (Memorial #57332919)

Obituary:

William Hardy simmons, well known farmer of seven miles northwest of Ottawa, Kansas, died last night 9:20 o'clock at the home, October 13, 1931. He had been in failing health several years and was seriously ill five weeks. Death resulted from cancer of the stomach.

The deceased was 70 years old. Mr. Simmons was born August 27, 1861 in Lumpkin County, Georgia. He was married twice. His first wife was Miss hattie Cole, to whome he was married in 1887 [1886], and her death occured september 20, 1908. On September 27, 1910, he was married to Mabel Alice Beach at Barnard, Kansas, and th family moved here from Barnard 13 years ago.

The widow and the following children survive: Lyl Cole simmons, Tulsa, Okla., George William simmons, Toopeka, Doris Margaret Simmons, student at Ottawa University, Phillip Richard Simmons who is attending Ottawa High Schol and rodney boyd Simmons of the home address. Jeanne Marilyn Simmons of Ottawa is a granddaughter of the deceased. Three brothers and four sesters of Mr. Simmons are: A. and E.B. simmons, Mrs. Anna Gurley and Mrs. Emma Kaul all of Barnard; J. P. Simmons, Lyons; Mrs. Rachel Mcdonald, Concordia, and Mrs. Will Borgen, Asherville.

Mr. Simmons was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ottawa and of the Security Benefit Association. The funeral will be held at 10:30 o'clock Friday morning from the Lamb Funeral Home with Rev. W. A. Elliott officiating. Interment is to be in Highland Cemetery.
