Elizabeth French was born circa 1629 in England[3]. She was aged 6 at time of migration. On 19 September 1650 when Elizabeth was 21, she married Richard ELLIS, in Dedham, Norfolk co., MA[3,60].
RICHARD 2 ELLIS, Lieutenant ( l ), born about 1621, deposed on 28 Jan. 1661, aged 40 years, on 28 May 1685, aged 64 years, died in Dedham, Mass., 21 Oct. 1694; married in Dedham, 19 Sept. 1650, Elizabeth French, born 1629, died in Dedham, 21 June 1697 (p. 197).

supporting data
William French, in Anderson, Robert Charles; George F. Sanborn; and Melinde Lutz Sanborn. The Great Migration: Immigrants to New England, 1634-1635. (NEHGS, 1999-2011), 2:591.
- "Elizabeth (French), b. about 1629 (aged 6 in 1635 (Hotten 99]); married at Dedham 19 Sep 1650 Richard Ellis [DeVR 126]; on 21 Jun 1657, "[blank] the wife of brothre Richard Ellice was received into [Dedham] Church" [DeChR 34]. (The published Cambridge church records call her "Elizabeth now Ellliot & now joined at Dedham" [CaChR 8], presumably an error in transcription of the surname.)"
The Great Migration view is she married only once to Richard Ellis. She would have been age 21 at her first and only marriage. That makes sense. The family association believes she married before that age first to Richard Elliot. The evidence for this is weak and implausible at best:
- Elizabeth French, b. in England ca. 1629, baptized 5 Sep 1630 in Halstead, England at the parish church of St. Andrews [6], but this record could not be found. She immigrated at age 6 [4] with parents, m1. Robert Eliot/Elliot of Dedham [1] prior to Nov 1658 [4] on 19 Sep 1650 [6], m2. Richard Ellis [1] p. 53. Richard Ellis is listed in his father-in-law’s will. Elizabeth died prior to her father’s death of 1681.
Noted genealogist concurs with Anderson:
Richard2 Ellis, in Holman, Mary Lovering, and Harriett Grace Scott. The Scott Genealogy. (Boston, Mass., 1919), 193.
- "Elizabeth French, born 1629, died in Dedham, 21 June 1697 married Richard Ellis, etc.
Hill, Don Gleason, Editor. The Record of Births, Marriages and Deaths, and Intentions of Marriage: in the Town of Dedham, Massachusetts, Volumes 1 & 2. 1635-1845 With an Appendix Containing Records of Marriages Before 1800, Returned from Other Towns, Under the Statute of 1857. (Dedham, Mass.: Town of Dedham, 1886), 25.
- "Elizebeth, wife of Leut. Richard Ellis, deceased July 21, 1697"
Some Internet trees show an Elizabeth Chenery (sometimes Genery) dau of Lambert Chanery as wife of Richard Ellis. This is also not correct.
"Widow Ellis" (We don't know her name) married first to Unknown Ellis in England and had Richard and Joseph Ellis. She married second to Lambert Chenery and had Isaac and John Chenery. So she was mother or Richard Ellis and not his wife and her name is unknown.
