Elizabeth died between 2 Jan 1677/8 and 4 July 1679, probably in Eastham.[4] A deed dated 8 May 1711, states than Joseph Higgins Sr. of Eastham received the sum of £8 from his brothers Jonathan Higgins Jr. and Elisha Higgins both of Eastham, and sold to them 1/3 of a parcel of land at the Barley Neck in Eastham, given unto our deceased mother Elizabeth Higgins by our Deceased Grandfather, Leutt Joseph Rogers... The land had been given to her in her father's will dated 2 Jan 1677/8. Note that the deed does not name James, Jonathan Sr.'s youngest son.[4]
Jonathan was made "Ensign of the military company" in 1675 and was obliged to resign after four years. In the Plymouth Colony records, Att the General Court ... 4 July 1679 ...
Whereas Ensigne Higgins with the leave of the Court, hath layed down his place and office of being ensigne bearer of the military companie of Eastham, these are to signify to the said company that they are heerby required to choose another... to serve in that place,
At the same court Jonathan Higgins for committing fornication with his wife's sister after his wife's death, was fined the summe of £20 [and] At the earliest petition of some of his frinds the Court remitted £10.[5]
