Eulalia Blalock

The 1st daughter of Benjamin Franklin McCullough and Mary Jane (Berry) McCullough. Grandma Eulalia McCulloch was born in Tulare and later moved to Kern City (old Bakersfield) where she met and married Frank Blalock at the age of 17. They travelled by train to San Francisco for the Marriage Ceremony. She enjoyed writing poetry, independently raising her children on a homestead in Willow Springs Valley, Reward, Kern County, where she harvested field mushrooms, raised turkeys and chickens and sold eggs and in Bakersfield. During the depression she operated a burger joint opposite Bakersfield High School to supplement the family income. She also contracted with the US Post Office for mail delivery in both McKittrick and Oildale. Grandma was preceded in death by her husband Frank and several of her children: Clyde E.,1906-1933, Billy, Oliver, Donna P. all of whom are buried in unmarked graves at Union Cemetery, Bakersfield, and Clyde's infant son born in 1926. She is survived by sons Edward F., Mountain View, Ivan D., Eureka, Leland J., Campbell, and Robert F., Oildale, and a daughter Cletha E., McKittrick, all of California and grand children Edward F. II, Thomas C., Blalock. David Blalock, Carole D. Seidell, Cletha A. Moore, Patricia Shriver, Peggy Carpenter, Robert L. Blalock, James Lucas, Pamela and Bob Bruce Blalock. In her senior years I have a sharp memory of my grand parents bickering over Canasta. She was a steady member of the Norris Road Church of Christ in Oildale where she celebrated her 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1954. Always had a pot of beans on the stove and Thanksgiving was a special treat at the Blalock home.
