  • The daughter of my ancesters, JARED/GERRARD & HANNAH SPENCER, she marrid Daniel Brainard before 1660=1661.
  • March 7, 1660-1 at the court at Hartford, Simon Lobdell, plaintiff brought action against Jared & Hannah Spencer for her refusal to marry him as promised and against Jared for breach of promise in the amount of £150 damages. The verdict was that there was no evidence that the engagement was broken. However, they did find that Simon had sustained much damage from his relationship with them, and that Jared is to returne any goods or money received by Jared or any of his family from Simon and that Jared shall pay him £10 pounds during the following six months. On March 14, 1660, the General Court decided further that Jared Spencer shall pay Simon Lobdel £5 beside the £10 in the form of wheat and "pease" or other estate equivalent to this.
