Harriett M. Rose, daughter of Ephraim and Catherine Rose was born in Jackson county, Michigan, October 31, 1889. Her mother, formerly Catherine Lincoln, was a cousin of Abraham Lincoln, the martyred president. When a child of ten she moved with her parents to Geneseo, Illinois, remaining there until the time of her marriage to James P. Martin, October 31, 1865.

Following their marriage they spent two years in Wisconsin, moving then to Iowa where they remained until 1879. At this time they came to Kansas and settled on their homestead north of Glasco.

To this union were born seven children. The death of Mr. Martin occurred February 13, 1909, after which Mrs. Martin made her home with her son, T.C. Martin of Glasco. A daughter, Electa Williams, and a son, Oliver P. Martin, departed this life, the former November 23, 1900, and the latter January 25, 1912.

The five children who survive are, Tyrus C. Martin of Glasco, Isabella Hare of Delphos, Julia H. Hetherington of Manchester, Iowa, May Swain of Fort Scott, and Jessie Tipton of Glen Elder. With these and one sister, Mrs. Caroline Edmonds of Michigan City, Indiana, and one brother, E.W. Rose of Concordia, twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and many other friends are left to mourn the loss of the departed one.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church at 3:00 o'clock conducted by Rev. Taylor and interment was made in the Glasco cemetery.
