Glasco Sun, Feb. 11, 1937, page 3: Tyrus Canfield Martin, oldest in a family of seven children, was a son of James P. and Harriet M. Martin. He was born Dec. 15, 1856 near Genesco, Ill., and died Feb. 2, 1937 at the home of his son Walter and family or Harlan at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 17 days. Soon after his birth his parents moved to Iowa where he grew to manhood. In 1879 he moved with his father's family to Cloud County where they took a homestead five miles northeast of Glasco. On October 8, 1881, he was united in marriage with Fanny Orinda Bickfort, who died Nov. 4, 1904, leaving Mr. Martin with a family of children to whom he was then both father and mother. He remained in Cloud county until his children were all grown, then he lived for short periods near Smith Center, Kansas and Aurora, Nebr., but retained a home for them until they were all in homes of their own. For the past eight years he has made his home with them. Ten children came to bless Mr. Martin's life. Two, Myrtie and Oliver A., preceeded him in death. He has left to mourn his passing eight children: Wylie W. of Paradise; Maud Beers of Concordia; Walter A. of Harlan; Mable Baltlett of Scotts Bluff, Nebr.; Jesse T. of Smith Center and Harriet (unreadable) of Lincoln, Nebr.; and Theodore C. of Caldwell, Idaho; twenty-three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Belle Hare of Delphos; Mrs. W.C. Swain of Kansas City, Kansas; and Mrs. T.W. Tipton of Glen Elder and many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church on Friday afternoon Feb. 5 conducted by Rev. C.D. Gambriell. Burial was in the Glasco cemetery.
